Why Insulation?
Insulation is crucial to the efficiency of both commercial buildings and industrial plants. Proper insulation performs a number of important functions - from protecting workers from extreme temperatures to optimizing energy efficiency and holding down operating costs. However, over time, insulation can become damaged or deteriorate. In some cases, insulation is removed or improperly replaced during building renovations or upgrades. Whatever the reason, failure to improperly insulate building piping and equipment will result in substantial energy loss and higher costs.
In fact, according to Insulation Outlook magazine, "Insulation maintenance is all too often ignored. It has been estimated that between 10 and 30% of all mechanical insulation that has been installed is now missing or damaged. Ignoring problems with an insulation system can lead to excessive energy loss, corrosion under insulation, mold development, increased cost of operations, and reduced process efficiency or productivity. In extreme cases, these problems could lead to loss of capacity or an emergency shutdown."
The good news is, any insulation problem can easily be identified and corrected. At SMI, we use the latest techniques and equipment to assure your insulation installations and repairs meet the highest industry standards.
